Description:
The Interpretation and Education intern supports public engagement and learning programs for visitors of all ages at parks, monuments, forests, and wildlife refuges. This position helps develop and deliver educational talks, guided walks, youth activities, and interpretive materials that connect people to natural and cultural resources. The role provides hands-on experience in environmental education, communication, and interpretation techniques used by public land management agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and presenting interpretive talks, tours, and programs for visitors.
- Lead or co-lead youth and community education activities, camps, or workshops.
- Research natural, cultural, or historical topics to support interpretive materials.
- Create or update displays, brochures, and educational signage.
- Support visitor center operations by greeting the public and answering questions.
- Assist with special events, volunteer activities, or outreach efforts.
- Evaluate visitor feedback and participation to improve programming.
- Maintain educational materials, props, and teaching supplies.
- Promote stewardship and resource protection messages during all public interactions.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interest in education, interpretation, or environmental communication.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to research and share information accurately and enthusiastically.
- Experience working with children or the public is preferred.
- Creative, organized, and reliable; able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, environmental studies, history, or related fields preferred.
Schedule:
8 hr days, 5 days per week. Schedule may be variable (early/late). May work weekends.
